History
Brooklyn was named by the Fagan brothers, William and Peter, who bought just over 100 acres in 1881 and in 1884 Joshua Everingham built the Brooklyn Hotel. The Hawkesbury River's first railway bridge was opened on 1st May 1889, after a world wide tender was awarded to the Union Company of America. The total tender was for 327,000 Pounds and the bridge opened up the railways, so that travellers no longer had to catch a ferry to complete their train journeys from Sydney to Woy Woy, Gosford and Brisbane. After serious cracks appeared in a supporting pier, the current bridge was built and opened 1st July 1946 and the original bridge was dismantled, though the pillars are still standing today.
