History
In 1830, John Moore was granted just over 639 acres and called the farm Avoca, which is the name of a village in Wicklow in Ireland, which is where the TV series Ballykissangel was shot. The Avoca Beach lake's original name is Bulbararing Lagoon and John Moore arrived from Ireland in 1829, held the position of a police magistrate and was a founding member of the District Council of Brisbane Water. In Celtic 'Avoca' means 'where the river meets the sea 'and Brisbane Water is named after Sir Thomas McDougall Brisbane, Govenor of NSW from 1821 till 1825.
The Avoca Beach Growers Market is held on the 1st Sunday of every month from 08:00am - 12:00pm at southend park on the corner of Avoca Drive & Vale Ave at Avoca Beach on the New South Wales Central Coast.
